Our Rotary District
(2450) is a very unique unique district, where it covers
nine countries in three different continents, speaking
different languages, and having different cultures.
They are: Armenia, Bahrain, Cyprus, Egypt, Georgia,
Jordan, Lebanon, Sudan & UAE.
We are united under
the Rotary theme of "Service Above Self". Our aim
is to provide service in our countries and to promote
peace and mutual understanding between different
cultures. |

March 11, 1929 witnessed the
birth of the Rotary Club of Cairo. The first Rotary Club in the
Present District, named then "The temporary district of the East
of the Mediterranean". Together with the Rotary Clubs of
Alexandria (1930), Beirut and Jerusalem (1932), they formed the
"District" on July 1st, 1935.
Other countries joined our District: Syria (1937 - 1969), Sudan
and Cyprus (1938), Jordan (1956) and Bahrain (1965) and Dubai
(2001). The district numbering changed several times during the
years. It changed from 83 (1935 - 1949), to 89 (1949 - 1970), to
195 (1970 - 1977), to 245 (1977 - 1991) and finally to 2450
since 1991.
Our district was also one of
the first districts to apply the Rotary Program then called "Rotary in
Action" or Rotaract, & formed:
1. In 1968 the 1st Rotaract Club in the district was the
Rotaract Club of Al-Mansoura-Egypt.
2. In 1971 the 2nd Rotaract Club in the District was the
Rotaract Club of Cairo-Egypt.
3. In 1972 the Rotaract Club of Alexandria & Rotaract of
Heliopolis-Egypt was formed.
4. In 1982 Rotaract club of Amman-Jordan was chartered
5. In1984 Rotaract Club of Beiruit-Lebanon was formed.
6. In 1985 Rotaract Club of Kesrouan-Lebanon was formed.
7. In1986 Rotaract Club of Limassol-Amathusia-Cyprus
8. In1994 Rotaract Club of Manama-Sulmaniya-Bahrain.
The district currently includes over 120 Rotary & 60 Rotaract
Clubs in all nine countries.
